Jean Austruy graduated from the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs et des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He moved to Saint-Marcellin in the Isère department and taught for nine years the drawing in this city and at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts and Industrial Arts in Grenoble. At the same time, he began ceramics first in his garage, then in a workshop he built in 1947 in order to increase his production, the demand being important after the war. His wife Jacqueline, also a graduate of the Beaux-Arts, helps him in his production. They hire employees, and focus on the quality of their production. In 1966, the family business expanded with their son Yves who helped to develop production, while remaining faithful to their demand for quality and aesthetics. Sandstone appeared in the seventies.Jean Austruy retired in 1990, and devoted himself to his passion: animal sculpture in ceramics or bronze.
