Peter and Denise Orlando ceramic dish 1950s

Peter Orlando (1921-2009) & Denise Orlando (1921-2017)
Born in the United States in New Jersey of Italian parents, Peter Orlando pursued drawing studies at the Newark Academy of Arts in 1939. During the Second World War, he joined the American army in 1942. He participated in the landing in France in 1944 and discover Paris. The following year he married Denise Delgoulet. In 1946, the couple traveled to the American continent before returning to France in 1948 so that Peter could complete his training at the Beaux-Arts in Paris (1948-1952). After a ceramics internship at the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1950, he created his own ceramics workshop in Paris in 1952 with Denise. They work together as a complementary couple: Peter creates the shapes and Denise decorates the pieces in a modern and abstract expression. At the start of production, Peter created some abstract decorations that were more geometric and sharp than those of Denise. The ceramic pieces were signed: Peter Orlando, sometimes Denise Orlando, Orlando or Orla.
