Peter Orlando (1921-2009) & Denise Orlando (1921-2017)
Born in the United States in New Jersey to Italian parents, Peter Orlando continued his drawing studies at the Newark Academy of Arts from 1939. During the Second World War, he joined the American army in 1942. He took part in the landing in France in 1944 and discovered Paris. The following year he married Denise Delgoulet. In 1946, the couple went to the American continent before returning to France in 1948 so that Peter could complete his training at the Beaux-Arts in Paris (1948-1952). After an internship in ceramics at the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1950, he created his own ceramics workshop in Paris with Denise in 1952. They worked together as a complementary couple: Peter created the shapes and Denise decorated the pieces in a modern and abstract expression. At the beginning of production, Peter created some abstract decorations that were more geometric and sharp than Denise's.
